Dental Implants in Woking

The ‘Gold Standard’ For Missing Teeth Replacement

Whilst we all hope to keep our natural teeth, few of us actually do. Whether through decay or an accident, many people will lose at least one or two teeth in their lifetime.

From a functional perspective, leaving a gap in the teeth is not recommended as this can lead to uneven teeth and where the missing tooth is visible, replacing it becomes even more essential for aesthetic reasons.

Dental implants

Whilst dentures or a dental bridge can replace a missing tooth, both of these have drawbacks in both comfort and practicality. Dental implants, on the other hand, offer an excellent method for replacing a missing tooth which is both long lasting, realistic in appearance and feel and also very strong.

The implant itself is a screw-like rod which is placed into the bone in the jaw, replicating a natural tooth root. It is then left for a period of a few months where the bone bonds with the implant in a process called ‘osseointegration’. Once this is complete, the implant is firmly and securely held in place and a crown then attached to complete the procedure.

Dental implants

Dental implants can be used for individual or multiple teeth replacement. Where a large number of teeth need replacing, they may also be used to hold a fixed bridge in place or to stabilise loose dentures.

Patients concerned about the invasive nature of this procedure can be assured that you will be in the best of hands throughout the treatment and any discomfort experienced should be no more than many other procedures. Modern anaesthetics and equipment ensure that any discomfort is minimised.

Advantages of dental implants include:

  • Strong and long lasting
  • Natural look and feel
  • Ability to eat your choice of food with no restriction
  • Ease of aftercare compared to dentures and bridges
  • Reduced bone loss in the jaw
  • Blend in well with your natural teeth
  • Help to improve confidence, especially when eating and smiling

Aftercare

In addition to the strength and longevity benefits of dental implants, their aftercare is simple and straightforward and requires no more than regular brushing and flossing (to prevent gum disease), in addition to your usual dental checks at AJ Dental.

Dental plans are also available at our Woking dental practice to help you to spread the cost of this popular and successful procedure.
