Why We Use Invisalign ‘Braces’ To Straighten Teeth Here In Woking

This comfortable and convenient orthodontic system may be just what you have been waiting for!

Are you unhappy with your crooked teeth? Perhaps you might have felt this way for some time but opted to do nothing about it because you didn’t want to have to wear metal braces? This is understandable and you are far from alone in this.

Whilst traditional wire and bracket style braces do straighten teeth effectively, some people find them a little uncomfortable and also, usually, very visible.

For many people, this visibility has been a barrier to having attractive teeth. It may have also put some off having other cosmetic dental procedures, such as teeth whitening.

At the end of the day, why would you want to highlight teeth that you consider to be unattractive because they are crooked and uneven?

If any of the above resonates with you, we have some good news. At the AJ Dental Group of Woking, we are now pleased to offer our patients a discreet and comfortable orthodontic system in the form of Invisalign.

What is Invisalign?

The Invisalign orthodontic system is very different from the type of dental braces that you already know. Using this system eradicates the need for the wires or brackets that are used in many other types of dental brace.

Instead of the wires and brackets, a series of trays are produced to fit over your teeth. Each of these trays is worn for a short period of time and will work to reposition your teeth a little, using gentle pressure. Once a tray has completed its role, it is then removed and replaced with the next tray in the series, which continues the process. This continues until your teeth are in the correct position.

Can I just buy them ‘off the shelf’?

No, Invisalign orthodontics are produced individually for each patient. There is no ‘one size fits all’ solution and this is for a very good reason. Everyone’s situation is different and it is necessary to custom produce these for each of our Woking patients who requires teeth straightening treatment.

In order to do this, you will need to be seen by our orthodontic team who will discuss your needs with you. X rays and scans will then be taken to produce the correct trays for your own individual situation. Once the trays have been produced, you will be recalled to our practice and we will show you how to fit them over your teeth in the correct manner.

What are the advantages of Invisalign?

There are a number of advantages to this particular orthodontic system. The most obvious of these is that there are no visible wires or brackets used. The trays that we provide are made from a transparent medical grade plastic and are almost invisible when being worn. Naturally, they are not completely invisible (or you wouldn’t be able to find them!), but you will find that most people won’t even notice that you are wearing them, unless, perhaps, they see them at very close range.

The beauty of Invisalign is that if you are in a situation where you feel more confident not wearing them, such as a job interview, they can be easily removed for a short while. We do recommend that you do this very rarely though. The more they are removed, the longer the treatment time will take.

The discretion factor is far from the only advantage. Many patients find the Invisalign trays offer a significant degree of comfort, and the fact that they can be removed makes it easier to keep your teeth and gums clean.

Cleaning your teeth with Invisalign braces.

If you have traditional dental braces, it can be very difficult to keep your teeth clean due to the intrusive wires. Food also becomes easily trapped in these and it is not unusual for tooth decay to be more common in patients who wear braces. Because Invisalign trays are easily removed, you are encouraged to do this to clean your teeth properly, with both brushing and flossing. You will also need to keep the trays clean and we will advise how best to do this during your consultation.

Eating too, is much easier when wearing Invisalign. Whilst you might choose to avoid certain foods with traditional braces in case it becomes stuck in the wiring, spinach being a classic case, you no longer have to worry about that. The trays are designed to be removed when eating and returned to the mouth afterwards. Where possible, you should, at the very least, swill your mouth with water and spit or swallow to remove any trapped food before you return the trays to your mouth. You will be given full instruction on ‘best practice’ when you receive the trays from us.

With Invisalign, your crooked and uneven teeth can become a thing of the past in a very discreet, comfortable and convenient manner.
